Year 5/6 Football Tournament
On Tuesday 10th October, the team selected travelled to Inspire Suffolk to compete in the U11’s Football Tournament. Our team was made up of some great footballers and this was proven by how well we played.
Our first match was against Somersham, a slow start saw the team concede within the first couple of minutes. With the matches only lasting eight minutes, the pressure was on to turn things around. Fortunately, goals coming from Connor and Oscar saw us take the lead. The job was not done yet. A top drawer save from Lewis in the dying seconds secured us the 3 points.
The second game of the day had arrived and our opponents were Kyson. The team went into this game with a superb attitude. However, a slight lapse of concentration lead to a great strike from Kyson which put them 1-0 up. Despite having some well created chances and lots of the ball, we couldn’t find the back of the net. A pivotal part of the day.
We put the second game behind us and the team went into the third game with great passion and willingness. This resulted in a 9-1 win over Copdock and Bentley. Jack found the back of the next within 19 seconds and throughout the match managed four goals in total. Ben and Oscar managed two goals each with Aaron also getting in on the action for one.
With two games left, the team were eager to keep playing. Our penultimate game, which was against Causton, saw 3 goals. A great team performance helped Jack and Connor to seal the deal as they both got on the score sheet. A clean sheet for Lewis saw the game end 3-0.
Our last game was approaching and East Bergholt B were our last opponents. The team continued their run of form and managed their fourth win out of five. With Aaron scoring twice and Connor scoring once the game finished 3-0.
Overall, the team played excellently. Although we did not make the semi-finals, this was by no means a reflection of how we played. The boys did not just display some great individual skill, they also worked fantastically as a team. Well done to Lewis who managed to catch the eye of the referees and win the ‘Fair Play’ award from our team.
